Gun Control

Well why don't I start this off with probably the most controversial subject out there right now?

Being from rural Alabama, I am completely against gun control. The second amendment states, "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." But of course this was written a long time. America has changed so much that surely we shouldn't continue to have the right to bear arms with all the violence happening!

Wrong. Now more than ever we need to stand up for the Second Amendment. America is NOT the same America from when our constitution was written. And if the constitution was written today, I believe our founding fathers would have been more detailed in their beliefs in the right of the American citizens to keep and bear arms. Our society is saturated in violence. And, like it or not, I don't see that changing unless America had a serious come to Jesus meeting. What I don't understand is how someone who is for gun control can honestly think taking away our guns would make this country better.

Let's say the government decided to take away our rights and confiscate our guns. Number one: Yes the GOVERNMENT would take them. (Who else do you think would take them?) And thus have an unending arsenal with which to reign over the people of America. We would cease to be a democracy. (Because seriously. Do you really think they'll just destroy them? Heck no! They'll use them to extort power over us!)

Number two: For the government to confiscate our guns in the first place, we would have to be compliant to them and willingly give them up. Sure, they could take them forcefully (and I have no doubt in my mind if they ever decide to take away our guns that they WOULD take them forcefully) but let's say for the sake of this scenario they don't. They just ask us to relinquish them willingly. Why on earth would a criminal do what the government said? They haven't before, so what exactly would make them want to now? And with the guns taken away from the law abiding citizens, we no longer have any protection in our homes or lives. What exactly would that be like? Think Newtown, Aurora, and Columbine on steroids. Sounds fun right? I didn't think so.

Number three: Now lets say the government forcibly takes our weapons. To be honest, the only plausible outcome I see happening here would be an uprising. A revolution. And possibly the disintegration of our nation as we know it. I can tell you right now that in the southern states, there is no way any of us would allow the government to take away our guns for any reason. But heck, let's say there's NOT an uprising. Well there would still be people and criminals who would do whatever it took to keep their weapons and we'd be right back at scenario number two!

Another thing I'd like to bring up as a side note is Aurora. I can assure you if James Holmes had come to a theater in my town to go on his rampage, he wouldn't have walked out of there alive because at least one (and that's being modest) person in that theater would have had a gun on their person and stopped him. If that movie theater had allowed concealed carry, the outcome of that terrible night could have been so different.

Okay, obviously you get the idea by now. In my opinion (and in the opinion of millions of other sane Americans out there) gun control simply can not work. And only an idealistic fool living in his own little fairy tale land would believe that such bologna could.

"To conquer a nation, first disarm it's citizens." This is a quote I'm sure almost everyone has heard by now. However, it's hard to say if it is indeed a quote from Adolf Hitler or something some unknown person said and decided to say Hitler said it. Regardless, it's proved to be very, very true. Just look at what Hitler accomplished. He didn't have to say it to prove it true in every form. We as Americans don't need to be swayed by the fluff and pretty pictures our government spews out.

After all, I've said it before and I'll say it again, the American people shouldn't fear and depend on the government, the government should fear and depend on the American people. They need US. But lately they've been turning it around to make us believe that it is us in fact who need them. Don't believe it, Americans. That's why we are who we are! We are free! Don't let the government take away our rights. Don't let them turn this nation into something that isn't American. Stand up for what is right. Stand up for what our country was founded on.
